Tell us about yourself:

I am young professional looking to get into the graphic design scene in Kansas City. I graduated from Mizzou last May with a degree in strategic communications. I want to work in either branding or layout design.

What is the inspiration behind your poster design?

My inspiration for this poster design was the meaning of “young, gifted and black.” When life is ahead of you, there is so much room for opportunity where your gifts can be applied to carve out the future you want for yourself. I chose to base the figure off of myself because the prompt reminded me of how it felt beginning my journey in college.

Why do you love being creative?

I love being creative because I have lots of ideas and graphic design allows me to bring them to fruition. It brings me joy because the process is satisfying as I work and learn throughout the design’s development.

Tell us about your experiences in the design world…

My experience in the design world is young, and landing a design job has been a challenge.

How can we create a more inclusive design world and ensure that Black people are represented?

A black designer group

In general… How can we make more equity or equality for us?

A black designer group would be a good starting place. Similar to the AIGA mentorship program, a black designers group could help young black designers navigate the market better.
