Tell us about yourself:

I’m a disciplined graphic designer that engages in research in order for a project to get done.

What is the inspiration behind your poster design?

My inspiration behind my poster design is the slaves breaking free from the shackles to have freedom. This also includes the design showing the chains breaking and the heart breaking the barrier of the poster.

Why do you love being creative?

I love being creative because it get my brain going to branch off different ideas and find out what works and what does not work. I gives me joy to focus on the project and give me joy to do research on a certain piece.

Tell us about your experiences in the design world…

The black experience in the design world has been difficult. This experience that I have been through has been challenging. I’m currently looking for a graphic design job to pay my bills after being let go from my full-time job. Working with them was great and learned a lot, but sadly let go with no explanation. In the corporate level, it’s challenging to keep a job and knowing that I’m black. Every time I walk out of my home, I am always thinking about how I can improve each day.

How can we create a more inclusive design world and ensure that Black people are represented?

Give them a chance to show there skills.

In general… How can we make more equity or equality for us?

A lot of places say they want diversity. Looking with my own eyes, it is hard to see diversity. It starts with the companies itself. We need to start giving freshly graduated college students to get the opportunity to have experience and create more diversity.
