Tell us about yourself:

My name is Jasmine Ali. I am a visual artist that focuses on digital art. I survived a stroke that made connecting with others challenging. Using my art and creativity my pieces give me an outlet to express ideas and emotions.

What is the inspiration behind your poster design?

The inspiration behind this piece was that you can’t define someone by their race or their gender.

Why do you love being creative?

I love being creative because it gives me an outlet to express myself. I find joy in creativity because I can just let go of everything that is going on in the world and just create. I have learned so much about myself while create my art.

Tell us about your experiences in the design world…

My black experience in the design world is inspiring and challenging. It inspires me because I see how far I can go. It’s no final destination. You keep going. It can be a challenge because not everyone wants to see you thrive. People judge you before they even see what you can do. They define you as soon as they see you walk through the door. I understand this, and I keep going. I will always find a way to shine.

How can we create a more inclusive design world and ensure that Black people are represented?

We can open doors for each other. We as people people I feel like we can join together and raise each other up. We can do truly do anything we want want in this world. We just need join together and just support everyone so we can all raise up and be the person we were created to be.

In general… How can we make more equity or equality for us?

Being open to give others a chance.
