Tell us about yourself:

As an artist and multidisciplinary designer local to the Midwest, I work to produce art and designs that only I could create. I continue to work hard not only to create art and design but also to support and spread the causes I care about through that same work.

What is the inspiration behind your poster design?

The inspiration for my poster was sparked by the phrase I chose: “together we rise.” I had the idea for the most straightforward interpretation of the message: a mass of people lifting one another to meet some opposition or reach for a more hopeful future. It was inspired by seeing yourself, other people in your community, and even others outside of your community, all fighting towards the same common goals and finding your place in that movement.

Please tell us why you think inclusivity and solidarity are essential in our society…

Inclusivity and solidarity are essential in our society because when the world is so intent on tearing people apart, we must look outside of ourselves for support and empathy while remaining strong. We must not only listen to each other, but we must also all feel for and understand one another and our struggles as we continue fighting for our collective freedoms.

How can we create a more inclusive design world and ensure that everyone is represented?

I believe programs like Pick Progress are a great step toward creating an inclusive design world, offering everyone a chance to be seen and heard. Reaching out to the younger generation and providing them with the tools and opportunities to grow can make a real difference. For example, when I was in high school, all students had the opportunity to attend Tulsa Tech, which offered hands-on learning in various fields. The program was free, provided transportation, and helped students gain valuable skills. If it weren’t for this program, I wouldn’t have discovered my passion for graphic design or been introduced to KCAI. Expanding such programs for students and young adults can create a better future for everyone.
