Tell us about yourself:

I am a 2026 JCCC Graphic Design graduate finding my place in the KC design community. When I’m not designing, I’m exploring other areas to create in or being sat on by both of my golden retrievers.

What is the inspiration behind your poster design?

The inspiration for this design was to reconnect with childhood creativity, curiosity, and open-mindedness. I combined the concept of diversity through the crayon box with activist imagery, using different hand gestures to represent love, peace, strength, and forward momentum.

Please tell us why you think inclusivity and solidarity are essential in our society…

No one is free until everyone is free. We are all united by the biggest divide: those on golden thrones versus the people they step on. Justice, freedom, and equity must not only be fought to be achieved but to be maintained. Failure to fight for those who are oppressed now can result in a regression to greater oppression.

How can we create a more inclusive design world and ensure that every person is represented?

Design is speech, and we have a duty to make all voices heard. We must be willing to ask questions, to listen, to learn, and to reevaluate. We need to make space and lift up marginalized designers. We need to recognize when someone’s experience and identity make them more qualified to tell a certain story.
