Tell us about yourself:

Hello! My name is Claire Henry, and I’m a creative director and designer living in Kansas City, Missouri. I graduated from William Jewell College in 2023 with a degree in Digital Media Communications. It was at William Jewell that I developed a love for the Kansas City community and small businesses. I’ve since founded a creative studio named Pixel and Print Studio, where I often work with people starting or managing small businesses.

What is the inspiration behind your poster design?

The inspiration behind my design was the “Strength in Numbers” Pick Progress phrase. I started thinking about the intersection of power, unity, and influence and chose to use the phrase “There is Power in Unity” because it encapsulates how there is both strength in numbers and power and unity.

Please tell us why you think inclusivity and solidarity are essential in our society…

Inclusivity and solidarity uplift people from every background. Our society is more powerful, more balanced, and more hopeful when it is made up of a variety of voices and experiences.

How can we create a more inclusive design world and ensure that everyone is represented?

The design world can become more inclusive through equity. Not everyone has the same resources or access to learn and succeed in the design field as others. This is because the graphic design field is both very competitive and has expensive startup costs. For example, art schools should lower the costs of education and technology for those who can’t afford it. This is a great example of how we can bring more opportunities to more talented people.
