Tell us about yourself:

Yo, I’m Anthony. I’m a multidisciplinary designer currently based in Chicago. It’s currently snowing, and the wind shredded my monstera on the walk back from the plant shop – send prayers.

What is the inspiration behind your poster design?

Presence; occupying a space undeterred. To me that’s beautiful.

Why do you love being creative?

Couldn’t imagine it any other way.

Tell us about your experiences in the design world…

Missed the memo that warns about potential imposter syndrome (“Was I just a diversity hire?”) but lately being Black in the creative industry has meant navigating what feels right for me and working with values aligned with my own, regardless of the perception of others. I’ve definitely noticed a lack of representation so I treasure the conversations I have with other Black designers I occasionally meet.

How can we create a more inclusive design world and ensure that Black people are represented?

Black people are not a monolith. There’s intersectionality in all aspects our identity that shape our culture. Don’t just hear – listen. Implement, collaborate, and connect with those whose shared experiences differ from your own and be willing to celebrate that.

In general… How can we make more equity or equality for us?

I believe it starts in education; not only acknowledging the systemic barriers, but instilling the idea that anything is possible for young creatives to make new ground and they should advocate for themselves 100%.
